In the midst of the peak season for weddings this year, we have had some horrendous weather conditions. This is why it is always advisable to have “Plan B”. In fact, I have a wedding today with a couple that have flown all the way from England, so that they can get married on the beach at Terrigal. Looking out my window, the clouds are rolling in and it is looking a little ominous. But, saying that, I had another wedding a couple of weeks ago, and the decision had to be made by 12 noon to whether it was the beach, or at the venue. At 12, it was not looking good. However, the bride made the call that we were going to the beach… I was quite amazed at this decision…. so beach it was… and the clouds parted and the sun was shining for the ceremony at 4pm. We were very lucky and I hope the same luck happens today.
Update
Again we were very lucky for this English couple. The sun shone through the clouds and they were able to fulfil their dream of being married on the beach. We even had a surfer pass by and they managed to get a photo posing with him and his surfboard. Unfortunately, I did not get a photo of that but here is another photo of them and they were so happy with their day.
BUT, things do not always work out that way!
I had a situation last weekend, where Plan B had to be used as it was pouring with rain. The ceremony and reception were to now take place at the reception venue. There was no where for the guests to go after the ceremony as the weather was so bad. And the usual thing is to begin the reception an hour or two later to give you some time to get your photos done. Therefore, some problems arose
1.There was no music following the ceremony (which was at 4.30pm) as the DJ was not due to arrive until 5.30pm and start at 6pm. Therefore, he arrived when everyone was milling around and was carting gear through the venue
2. There were no drinks or nibblies due to start serving until 6pm …the guests were looking a little hot and bothered.
I would suggest that when you are talking to your wedding reception venues and entertainment people, that you suggest that if it rains and you have to have the ceremony inside, that these issues could be addressed.
